(Temporary Part Time)
Position: Cowichan Lake Recreation is seeking a part-time Skate Shop Supervisor on a temporary basis (up to 3 months). Reporting to the Manager, Cowichan Lake Recreation and supervised by the Recreation Programmer II, the Skate Shop Supervisor is responsible for the efficient and safe operation of the skate shop, programs, and supervision of rink patrol or other staff or volunteers.
Qualifications: Secondary school graduation or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience. A minimum one (1) year of related experience, including experience in the supervision of personnel or an equivalent amount of appropriate training and experience. A minimum one (1) year skate sharpening and cash handling experience. First Aid Level 1 with CPR C (child CPR) and a Class 5 Driver’s Licence are required, and WHMIS training will be provided by the employer. Must have knowledge of the activities, programs and functions of Cowichan Lake Recreation, and of the operation of a variety of equipment used in the operation of programs/events (i.e. skate sharpening equipment, cash registers, sound systems, etc.). Must have the ability to establish and maintain working relationships with other staff, instructors, general public, users and program participants; lead, motivate, empower and supervise employees in a respectful, proactive manner; participate as an engaged member of a team and to work independently; provide exceptional customer service; organize and prioritize tasks and duties effectively; adhere to all procedures and policies; be flexible in terms of working hours/days; communicate both verbally and in written form; complete cash reports accurately; and operate a computer and type basic reports.
Hours of Work: This temporary part time position is guaranteed 20 hours per week on average over the course of a year. Hours of work may be up to 40 hours per week during peak periods based on operational need. Due to the nature of the work the schedule will vary based on meeting the operational requirements of the facility and may include days, evenings, and weekends.
Salary: This temporary part time position is unionized (USW Local 1-1937). The probationary wage rate is $21.37 per hour and the regular rate is $22.66 per hour (January 1, 2019 rates).
