Director, Library Services
Opened in 1950, the West Vancouver Memorial Library is a War Memorial, dedicated as a living monument and an everlasting commemoration to those who served and sacrificed their lives in the Second World War. A municipal library, governed by the BC Library Act and Library Board, the West Vancouver Memorial Library is a shared community resource, supported primarily by public funds gathered through municipal and provincial taxation, private donations as well as by the Library Foundation.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting directly to the Library Board, the Director, Library Services acts as the Library’s chief executive officer. The Director is responsible for leading, planning, directing and administering the Library within the governance framework and standards of the Library Act of British Columbia and the strategic, policy and financial framework established by the Board.
The Director, Library Services exercises considerable independence of judgement in both recommending and implementing the strategies, policies and plans needed to achieve the vision, mission, goals and values of the West Vancouver Memorial Library. Leadership responsibilities include the support of an organizational culture that is energetic, achievement-oriented and client service-focused, financial management and achieving the highest professional standards for the delivery of library services.
This position requires a master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution. The candidate will have significant experience in a senior management position in a unionized environment as well as have demonstrated progressively responsible professional leadership experience in a library system. The role requires excellent interpersonal communication and the ability to develop an effective, inclusive and collaborative leadership team that with creativity and innovation engages with the community. A BC Driver’s License and vehicle is required.
