General Manager, Transit
Durham Region Transit (DRT) is one of Ontario's largest regional transit systems, serving eight unique area municipalities: Ajax, Brock, Clarington, Oshawa, Pickering, Scugog, Uxbridge, and Whitby. With over 220 vehicles, running more than 520,000 annual service hours at 2,800 stops, DRT safely moves over 10 million people across the Region each year.
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the General Manager, Durham Region Transit, is responsible and accountable for setting the system’s strategic direction and operational management. The General Manager advances Regional Council 's vision, priorities, and programs for transit and develops and implements service plans and growth strategies that successfully serve the Region’s growing population in both urban and rural settings. The GM provides leadership for overall performance in long-term planning, service planning, service delivery, financial planning and sustainability, and organizational effectiveness, ensuring the safety, health, wellbeing, and satisfaction of the public through high-quality transit services. The General Manager establishes effective communications with elected officials, the community and stakeholders, including other levels of government and transit systems. With a team of more than 500, the GM provides seamless integration of interagency transit services to meet the travel needs of Durham Region residents, businesses, and visitors.
With your university degree and more than 10 years of senior public transportation experience, you are skilled at leading and supporting teams in large complex organizations. You are known as a visionary with a track record of solid execution skills. You have honed your political acuity in high profile and publicly accountable roles and have demonstrated integrity in your actions. You’ve successfully led and driven implementation of technological advancements and service improvements in transit and rapid transit systems. An effective and energizing communicator, you inspire dedication to a strong client services culture. You have built relationships across all levels of government and understand how to cooperate, mediate, and negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes.
