New Media Gallery is a contemporary public gallery, owned and operated by the City of New Westminster. The Learning Lab at Anvil Centre is managed by New Media Gallery. It is a unique, professional teaching workshop offering a growing collection of equipment and technologies necessary to deliver quality Arts & Technology programs and workshops. It contains a Mac Lab, I-Pads, Camera Lenses, Lights, Green Screen, Projectors, Audio Interfaces, Speakers, Arduinos, Makes Makey, modular technologies such as Little Bits, 3-D Printers & Scanners, Large Screen Monitor, VR suite, 360 Degree Camera.

We are looking for dynamic Arts & Technology instructors to join our faculty and help develop our unique series of programs. Courses are developed and delivered in the Learning Lab, in the Gallery itself, in surrounding areas of the building and occasionally outside Anvil. Instructors must have the ability to propose original workshops in writing, and often to connect their lessons to New Media Gallery exhibition programming or school curriculum. You will develop, propose and deliver high quality Arts & Technology classes, workshops and/or day camps for children, youth, and/or adults. Specific duties include proposing unique workshops and teaching approaches, developing school programs that link with exhibitions and the curriculum, delivering high quality workshops that offer imaginative, meaningful ways to encounter technology and the ability to document your programs, and uphold the quality and professionalism of Anvil Centre and New Media Gallery.

If most of the following characteristics and skills describe you, we want to meet you!
  • You have completed a post-secondary degree, diploma or equivalent in visual arts and/or arts education with specific knowledge of contemporary art practice
  • You have a minimum of 3 years of previous teaching experience or you are in the final year of your education degree
  • You have experience with specific technologies and arts-based practices
  • You may have a specific interest in coding or robotics
  • You have considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of contemporary art education
  • You have a special interest in creative approaches
  • You have sound knowledge of non-formal teaching methods and techniques
  • You have excellent teaching, scheduling, and organizational skills with the ability to follow through on proposals and documentation
  • You have the ability to pass and maintain a satisfactory Police Information Check

*Please note that the hours of work are dependent on program registration. The successful candidate will have the ability to choose their work hours, but we appreciate the ability to work weekdays, evenings and/or weekends.
