The Deputy Fire Chief plays an integral role in supporting the Fire Department’s exempt team with being responsible for the planning and overall management of one of two assigned portfolios, Operations and Community Services. The Deputy Fire Chief reports directly to the Fire Chief who evaluates work through observation, discussion, quantitative/qualitative analysis and written reports. The position provides input to business planning and longer term strategic planning that is aligned with the department’s mission and vision for providing community protection.  This position is expected to remain well-informed of the latest research, resources and techniques for mitigating fire, emergency medical, hazardous materials and technical rescue incidents along with training, prevention and emergency management. The position is both an administrative and technical position wherein the incumbent is one of two alternates to the Fire Chief.  

Qualified candidates must have NFPA 1021 Fire Officer III and Incident Command System Level 300 certifications with preference given to candidates in possession of a degree or diploma in Emergency Management, Business, Public Administration or related field and NFPA 1021 Fire Officer IV. Candidates must also have a minimum of ten (10) years of firefighting experience with at least five (5) years as a Fire Officer.
