The District of Oak Bay is a picturesque oceanfront community within the Greater Victoria Region, with a population of +18,000. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Financial Services will be responsible for the effective leadership and management of all Financial Services and Information Technology functions within the District. In addition, the Director will lead the development, implementation and monitoring of financial policies and procedures in alignment with applicable regulations, legislation, public-sector accounting standards, best practices and industry trends.

In addition to possessing a strong financial track record in a public sector setting, the Director will possess a collaborative, team-oriented leadership style and will have the ability to quickly establish credibility and trust with Council, staff and other external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate for the District will have a reputation for being a leader in their field and is recognized for their willingness to foster innovation; exceptional verbal and written communication skills; and commitment to team. Our ideal candidate will also have a passion for change and transformation and be instrumental in the development of strategies that support the District’s Strategic Priorities and the Department’s mandate.  Lastly, our ideal candidate will possess a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) designation plus ten years of senior level experience in local government financial services. Additional training in performance management that includes leadership, supervision and team development is definitely considered an asset.
