The Richmond Olympic Oval is a breathtaking venue on the banks of the Fraser River.  Located in the City of Richmond, a culturally diverse and geographically unique community centrally located on Canada's West Coast, in Metro Vancouver.  The Richmond Olympic Oval is an international centre of excellence for sports, health and wellness, culture and entertainment used by members of our community and those seeking to wear the maple leaf on the international stage.

The Manager, Sponsorship and Fund Development is responsible for the acquisition and management of all sponsorships for the Richmond Olympic Oval (ROO). This position will cultivate relationships with new and existing partnerships to engage and inspire them about key sponsorship and fundraising opportunities.  Applying their extensive sponsorship experience and knowledge they will help measure and evaluate the performance of our existing portfolio, while helping shape our go-forward strategic approach.

The ideal person has a solid knowledge of the development process - understands the principles of fundraising and sponsorship relations – and has demonstrated success in engaging donors.  They oversee the maximization of public and private sector donations, grants, and major gifts, and manages giving, fulfilment and special event activities related to sponsorship and fund development; while providing leadership, expertise and professional support to major events, sport hosting, and corporate sponsorship initiatives.

Job Summary
  • Create, present and implement a sponsorship and fund development strategy. Defines and develops priorities both short and long term
  • Work across the organization to consult on sponsorship investment, track all sponsorship activities, and lead the process for evaluating and responding to requests for sponsorship
  • Develop and pitches corporate sponsorship opportunities to brands and ad agencies that align with ROO
  • Conduct research and analysis on potential sponsorship partners to help the ROO to determine the best quality and most appropriate sponsors to pursue for partnerships
  • Establish and implement a marketing program for sponsorship and fund development, creates written materials and implements the brand appropriately, prepares presentations and establishes a positive corporate profile
  • Develop, coordinate, and participate in fundraising events/activities. Participate in community fund raising development events as required
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit prospects at all levels including but not limited to government agencies, private and public sector corporations, foundations and private donors for granting and gifting
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Senior Management, staff, Board of Directors, community leaders, businesses, organizations and partners. Write reports, synopses and briefings to maintain continuous and solid communication to internal and external stakeholders
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field;
  • Professional certification/s in research, writing, sponsorship marketing and communication will be considered an asset (such as certifications through national and international marketing/sports marketing institutes like IEG);
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in fundraising management, sponsorship, sales and marketing;
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, presentation skills, communications skills (verbal/written) and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of internal and external contacts;
  • Excellent research and investigative skills, and ability to be resourceful;
  • The ability to successfully close deals;
  • The ability to keep informed of current trends, influences and activities related to the field of sponsorship, investment and marketing;
  • The ability to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment effectively managing deadlines and possessing excellent planning, administrative and multi-tasking abilities;
  • Understanding of fundamental market research, analysis and communications practices, and have a good general awareness of tourism, events and sport tourism;
  • Strong financial acumen and understanding of the business community; Aptitude for financial matters and ‘big picture’ thinking;
  • Ability to work in a thorough, discreet and professional manner exercising tact at all times;
  • Be able to supervise and oversee additional staff/employees, volunteers, contracts and contractors and be adept at working through interdepartmental processes;
  • Demonstrated successful experience as a corporate spokesperson, writing event proposals, and skilled in public relations and negotiation practices;
  • Strong organization, project management, consensus building and conflict resolution skills are essential;
  • Computer literate – internet savvy and ability to learn new tools/systems quickly (i.e. website content maintenance etc.);
  • Valid BC Driver’s Licence and a clean driving record; and
  • Must be able to complete a successful Criminal Record Check.
