Kentville! “A Breath of Fresh Air”, is seeking a highly-respected leader as its Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). With a population of approximately 6,271 give or take 12 new folks, is the center of the Annapolis Valley. It is a healthy and vibrant community in which to raise or start a family, build or grow your business, or perhaps to retire in comfort. We have all the amenities and resources you need including: excellent recreational facilities, unprecedented green spaces with a variety of year-round outdoor pursuits. It is also a thriving service centre, surrounded by a mixed farming, orchards, vineyards and manufacturing region, a world class regional hospital, health, and educational services. Kentville is in close proximity to the Bay Fundy and the world's highest tides and within an easy one hour drive to Halifax and an international airport.
Overview: As CAO, you are the senior administrative leader of the Municipality responsible for managing its activities in accordance with the Municipal Government Act of Nova Scotia. Working with a Council of seven (including the Mayor) you will have strong political acumen as a core competency, you will provide timely guidance to Council and under their direction ensure that all policies, programs and services are carried out effectively. You will support a strong senior management team as well as all staff in achieving performance objectives. You will also maintain a strong connection between residents and businesses to ensure they are aware of major policies and initiatives being undertaken.
Qualifications: Ideally, you have several years' leadership experience in senior administrative or management roles, preferably at the municipal or provincial level, together with post-secondary education in a related discipline. You have a long history building consensus among various stakeholders such as elected officials, staff, other levels of government, and residents. You understand the issues and challenges faciing municipalities, specifically Towns, and are familiar with best practices in economic development, financial management, administration, operations, human resources, emergency services and governance. You have a successful track record of accomplishments and possess well-developed skills in communications, problem solving, and, most importantly leadership. Lastly, you have proven experience working with an elected Board or Council and bring a complete understanding of governance. You should share our goal to develop a diverse workforce that is representative, at all job levels, of the citizens we serve.
