As Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of an organization recognized as one of B.C.’s top employers, you will report to and work collaboratively with a dedicated Mayor and Council and lead a senior management team comprised of General Managers across three divisions — Infrastructure Services, Corporate and Community Services and Resort Experience; and three Directors for their corresponding departments – Human Resources, Planning and Finance. The CAO also heads the CAO Office with direct reports from Human Resources, Communications and Economic Development, as well as the Executive Secretary. As CAO you lead a large and diverse overall team of inspiring and engaged RMOW employees.
The CAO of the RMOW, under the direction of Council, is responsible for managing, directing and the overall planning and coordination of the affairs of the municipality in accordance with the Province of British Columbia’s Community Charter, Local Government Act and policies and programs approved by Council. This position is responsible for providing advice and guidance to Council and leadership to staff in the development and implementation of strategies, policies and programs that meet the needs of the organization and resort community. The CAO role is instrumental in overseeing our new nearly complete municipal Vision and Official Community Plan that will guide the community’s next chapter.
As the ideal candidate, you have a bachelor degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or a related discipline and ten to fifteen years of related work experience gained in a strategic senior leader capacity. You are a highly credible senior leader who has had responsibility for providing leadership to high performing, multi-function teams. You are inspiring, engaging and have a proven ability to effectively lead.
The successful candidate brings exceptional interpersonal, communication and strategic planning skills as well as the ability to inspire confidence in others and develop and maintain effective relationships. The CAO role requires a results-oriented individual who has the ability to work well under pressure to effectively meet deadlines and can foster relationships and forge partnerships with Whistler’s internal and external stakeholders to ensure continued success of the resort community. The successful candidate will have a passion for what Whistler has to offer its visitors and residents, as well as the dedication to ensure that it continues to be a successful resort community.
