The Fraser Basin Council is seeking an Assistant Program Manager with experience in project management and coordination, to work on multiple projects in support of the development of flood management strategies at local, regional and province-wide scales.

Under the supervision of the Program Manager and working with the FBC flood team, the Assistant Program Manager is responsible for advancing several projects to support the Lower Mainland Flood Management Strategy (LMFMS) as well as other flood strategies.

The Assistant Program Manager will also provide administrative, logistical and other support to advisory committees and working groups, as well as planning and implementation of engagement activities and special events.

Key Responsibilities
In collaboration with the Program Manager, the FBC flood team, consultants and partner organizations across the Lower Mainland region and beyond, the Assistant Program Manager will have the following key roles and responsibilities:
  • Help manage and coordinate multiple, complex projects, which may include:
    • Flood risk assessment
    • Evaluation of flood risk reduction options
    • Content development for a web-based flood information portal, and
    • Investigations to inform and support flood strategies at local, regional and province-wide scales.
  • Organize and support multi-interest advisory committee / working group meetings and special events such as a Flood Forum, workshops and webinars (e.g., logistics, technical support, note-taking)
  • Liaise between the Fraser Basin Council team, contractors, partner organizations, advisors and stakeholders

Skills and Experience
  • Demonstrated skills in coordinating multiple, complex projects, tasks and timelines, and experience working with a decentralized, multi-disciplinary staff team
  • Top-notch research, writing and editing skills
  • Excellent communication skills, including a strong ability to communicate with people from diverse sectors and an ability to summarize complex information into easy-to-understand communications materials such as briefing documents, meeting notes, progress reports and presentations
  • Experience in the planning and delivery of meetings, workshops and other events
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team, take initiative, manage time and complete tasks efficiently, and
  • Attention to detail, including in administrative roles.

Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge and experience pertaining to river and coastal flood hazards, flood risk assessment and flood management policies, practices and jurisdictions. Qualfiications for this position are:
  • Post-secondary degree(s) in community, regional and land use planning, resource and environmental management, engineering, geography, and/or other fields relevant to this position
  • Preference for applicants with a minimum of 5-7 years of work experience
  • GIS knowledge and experience (an asset).
