The Town of Comox is seeking a temporary full-time Deputy Director of Finance to join our team for a 20-month maternity leave assignment. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the successful candidate will be responsible for the operating functions of the Finance Department, including managing and directing the work of the finance staff. The successful candidate is also responsible for achieving efficient operations through reliable performance in payroll, accounting, accounts payable, collection functions and year-end procedures including the preparation of working papers for the financial statements. The incumbent will exercise sound judgement, tact and discretion in dealing with confidential matters and demonstrate exceptional levels of customer service to other departments within the organization and the public. The incumbent will also be required to research and interpret legislation, work in an independent manner and exercise sound judgement in selecting and interpreting information.
The preferred candidate will have a professional accounting designation (CPA), enhanced by several years of senior municipal related accounting/financial and management experience. The ideal candidate will also have experience in overseeing payroll, a history of implementing new financial/accounting software and possess exceptional communication skills both verbal and written.
