Job Description: 
The Town of Magrath is seeking an experienced and motivational leader to be its new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). This individual will serve as the administrative head of the municipality, will work in close collaboration with Mayor and Council, and will be in charge of all Town staff and operations. This is a great opportunity for a fulfilling career in this beautiful part of southern Alberta.

Magrath is a vital and growing community and has been known as The Garden City since its founding. The community is known for its high educational standards, active cultural life, and sporting excellence. The expanding Magrath Trail and associated historic areas are an important inter-municipal amenity in the community, and the Magrath golf course is considered one of the best in the region.

The Town of Magrath has a current Municipal Development Plan, experienced senior staff, and collaborates closely with its neighbouring municipality, Cardston County, as well as with the communities of Stirling, Raymond, and Cardston. Regional Mayor and CAO meetings are held quarterly. The Town also works closely from an economic development standpoint with federal and provincial economic development organizations in Lethbridge. Council is also focused on expanding residential opportunities with local and regional property developers in the Town.

Magrath lies 35 kilometers south of the City of Lethbridge and its College and University facilities. (Lethbridge is a major commercial centre and many professionals live in Magrath and commute to the city.) Magrath is also home to the fastest growing business in Alberta, Surex Direct. This is an online insurance business which is a major and expanding employer in the community. A 1,000 m² Innovation Centre was also recently completed in the community in conjunction with a major modernization of Magrath’s schools. The goal of this Centre is to promote innovation in education and entrepreneurship with youth and young adults. Magrath is promoting itself not only as a great place to retire and raise a family, but also as a centre for job creation in the technology and agriculture industries particularly.

The successful candidate would be expected to have relevant post-secondary education and related skills in municipal and/or business administration. This would include competencies in human resource management, financial management, strategic planning, and economic development, ideally. A  certificate in local government administration or professional designation in a relevant field would be desirable as well. The successful candidate would normally be expected to take up residence in the community.
