The City of Burnaby, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department is seeking passionate, enthusiastic people with strong leadership and commitment to Recreation. In this role you will ensure customer satisfaction by anticipating and exceeding customer expectations, plan and lead play-based specialized outdoor recreation activities and ensure a fun and safe environment for children and youth in an outdoor program. Successful applicants will have strong skills in leadership, organization, teamwork, communication, public relations, and be proficient at leading and implementing play-based activities for children. Supervising volunteers will also be part of your role.
Grade 12 graduation, related experience working with children and youth, Emergency First Aid (8+ hour equivalent) and CPR ‘C’ certifications are all required prior to your first shift. You are an enthusiastic and positive role model who has a genuine interest working with children and youth. An Outdoor Education or Recreation Leadership Diploma, Teacher Certification (PDP), Child and Youth Care, High Five®, or Therapeutic Recreation Diploma would also be an asset. Other requirements include experience working with children and youth in a variety of outdoor recreation settings and programs.
Canoe certification is an asset. Demonstrated experience leading canoeing, orienteering, games, crafts, archery and hiking opportunities for children are assets.
Program hours are Monday through Friday 9am - 8pm. The successful applicants must be available to work July and August (shifts are up to 5 days per week including evenings for a maximum of 35 hours per week).
Hourly wage: $22.48 + 12% in lieu of benefits.
