As one of BC’s Top 100 Employers, the City of Coquitlam is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Senior Accountant to join our team of professionals in the Finance & Technology Department, Financial Services Division.
Reporting to the Financial Services Manager, the Senior Accountant will perform a variety of functions including supervising and coaching staff performing accounting and clerical duties and building internal audit and control functions for the City. Primary duties will include the review, analysis, and evaluation of financial controls, procedures, systems and business processes and provide recommendations for improvement. You will identify internal control and procedural standards for new systems as well as analyze current business processes and suggest efficiencies. In addition, you will provide advice and assistance to departments on financial variances, accounting procedures, systems, processes, and controls as well as perform duties associated with period-end and year-end closing such as developing accounting entries, preparing working papers, and special projects as needed.
The ideal candidate will exercise considerable independent judgment and initiative, have a philosophy based on continuous improvement, be able to manage multiple competing demands, build and maintain strong working relationships and work collaboratively in a team setting. Strong leadership skills and experience are also essential. These attributes will be matched with successful completion of a recognized professional accounting program and a minimum of 5-7 years’ of related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience in a public sector setting. CPA designation is required.
In addition to a CUPE hourly rate of $41.29 - $48.78, the City offers a comprehensive benefits package and an earned day off program. Applicants under consideration may be required to consent to a Police Information Check.
