Public Works Operator II

The District of Lake Country is looking for an experienced Public Works Operator to join our team.

The Public Works Operator II is responsible for maintaining public roads, rights-of-ways, buildings and parks to provide a safe, clean and quality environment for the public. The Public Works Operator II will carry out maintenance and repairs to roads, sidewalks, rights-of-way and drainage works, often using heavy equipment to do so while also maintaining parks and public works facilities including turf, trees, planted areas, irrigation supplies, public works buildings and structures. A highly flexible individual with a diverse skill set that can work collaboratively across the parks and public works disciplines in a scheduled maintenance and emergency basis. The main focus of this role is to support the Roads Division and providing additional support with roadside mowing and maintenance sweeping along with other general road maintenance. Public Works Operators may also perform other related duties working with other District departments as required. 

The normal work week is 40 hours, Monday to Friday, with possible weekend shifts and on call pager duties.

The preferred candidate will have completed a minimum of Grade 12 education, a minimum of 12 months experience in road construction, public works or parks maintenance, preferably in a municipal setting, a valid first aid certificate, and a valid British Columbia Driver’s Licence with an air brake endorsement with a clean driver’s abstract. The hourly rate of pay for this unionized position is between $23.92/hr and $28.48/hr
(2019 rates).
