Manager, Human Resources

School District No. 72 (Campbell River) is seeking applications for the full-time excluded position of Manager, Human Resources to provide leadership in support of a wide range of professional human resources services. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources.  The start date is expected to be early Summer 2019.

Campbell River is a scenic, oceanfront community framed by extensive waterfront, west coast forests and snow-capped mountains. As the Manager, you will be a key player on the Human Resources Team, and in supporting a positive organizational culture. Your role will encompass the delivery of personnel and administrative services such as staffing, working with principals, vice principals, and managers regarding human resources and labour relations issues. The successful candidate will maintain an effective working relationship with union representatives and provide support for individual employees.

The successful applicant should expect this position to grow and evolve, with the eventual assumption of additional responsibilities to ensure a seamless transition as defined in the goals of the District’s succession plan.

Initial Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Administration of the staffing process, including posting, recruitment, selection and orientation;
  • Coordination of the District’s Wellness and Attendance Support Program as well as Disability Management;
  • Management of processes and systems necessary to maintain personnel records in the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and other databases; including coordination with the payroll department;
  • Providing assistance to the Director in the administration of CUPE and Teachers’ collective agreements; and,
  • Initiating and supporting the development, and monitoring of systems and procedures, for all Human Resource functions.

The successful applicant will have:

  • a university degree in Human Resources Management or related field;
  • 5 years experience in a large public sector, multi-union environment;
  • a commitment to meaningful consultation and collaboration within a unionized environment;
  • exceptional interpersonal, communication, leadership and problem-solving skills;
  • focused skills on mental health and wellness support;
  • strong organizational and information technology skills combined with the ability to prioritize, work independently, and manage in a fast-paced environment;
  • integrity and a strong work ethic;
  • a commitment to the District, students and employees, as well as to a positive culture;
  • CPHR Designation preferred.
