Reporting to the Recreation Centre Supervisor, this is recreation leadership work in the organization and implementation of a variety of social, cultural or recreational activities within a designated area or a multi-purpose recreation facility. Along with supervising seasonal and part-time staff, contract instructors and volunteers, duties include preparing and leading individual program plans and schedules for day-to-day operations and indoor and outdoor supervised activities; directing the implementation of programs activities; providing leadership; assessing program results and recommending changes; enforcing facility rules and regulations ensuring required standards of behavior and safety are maintained; participating in the recruitment of, and giving guidance and instruction to staff, contract instructors and volunteers. In the absence of the Centre Supervisor 1, the Recreation Leader 2 assumes responsibility for the operation and security of the facility. Performs related work as required.
Completion of a two-year community college program in Community Recreation, plus some related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. St. John’s First Aide and CPR certificates are desirable. Sound knowledge of organized community recreation principles and practices, the rules, regulations, procedures and policies of the area or Centre served. Experience working with preschool, childrens camps and lifestyle programs is an asset. Ability to plan, develop, coordinate and lead various recreation programs; to participate in the recruitment process of auxiliary staff and contract instructors; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts; knowledge and experience with various software, including MS Office and CLASS. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
