Landscape Architect
(Temporary Full-Time)


The Engineering, Parks and Environment Department is looking for a temporary full-time Landscape Architect for approximately 18 months.

You will perform professional work involving the planning, design and implementation of a diverse range of park projects, such as new park developments, playgrounds, sports fields and habitat restoration.  This includes developing conceptual plans, specifications, cost estimates and budgets; reviewing and assessing long term plan proposals and preparing and presenting reports to Council on park planning issues.  You will also be responsible for coordinating the implementation of assigned projects with other municipal staff; organizing and conducting public meetings regarding park development proposals; researching, assembling, interpreting data pertinent to park planning issues and preparing recommendations on same; recommending use and selection of consultants and overseeing their work; and maintaining liaison with various internal and external contacts.  In addition, you will participate in scheduling and monitoring the progress of approved projects and recommend specification changes as required, as well as clarify plans and specifications for construction personnel.  You are a “people person” with a thorough knowledge of landscape architecture in the public realm, landscape construction methods and materials.  Your proven communication and interpersonal abilities in facilitation will allow you to build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders and ensure success in the public engagement process.  You will also draw on your organizational skills to juggle multiple projects, prioritize workloads and meet deadlines.

Your qualifications will include a degree in Landscape Architecture or related discipline and considerable related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Registration or eligibility for registration in the Society of Landscape Architects in the Province of British Columbia is required.  Previous experience working with local government, along with proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and computer assisted design software would an asset. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is also required.

For temporary full-time positions of eight (8) months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.

Salary:
$41.29 – 48.28 per hour
(Pay Grade 27 – January 2019 rates)

Hours of Work:
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
