Heavy Duty Mechanic

Full Time Position  
Pay Grade 11 - ($35.68/hour- January 1, 2019 Rate)

Applications are invited to fill the full time position of Heavy Duty Mechanic at the Oak Bay Public Works Yard. The position will be 40 hours per week and is a Union position represented by CUPE Local 374.

This is skilled mechanical work at the journeyman level in the overhaul, repair and maintenance of automotive and related power equipment in the shop and field. The Heavy Duty Mechanic works under the general supervision of the Mechanic Foreman but uses considerable independent judgement.   The successful applicant will have the ability and qualifications to perform safety checks on fleet vehicles and carry out annual vehicle inspections required by the Province. The successful candidate must be able to maintain vehicles and equipment and perform a variety of welding, fabricating and equipment modification jobs common to mechanical shops.   Valid and subsisting Class 3 BC Driver’s License with air brake endorsement along with an applicable mechanical trade’s certificate is required.
