Crisis Intervention Worker

The City of North Vancouver – Police Administration Department at the RCMP Detachment requires auxiliary Crisis Intervention Workers. 

You will provide immediate crisis intervention assistance to victims, their families, and/or witnesses of trauma and/or crime, in cases such as sudden deaths, suicides, family disputes, and domestic assaults, and assist with next-of-kin notifications.  You will also provide victim services to individuals and families as a follow up to crisis intervention, a referral from a police investigation, or a referral from a community resource, recommend remedial action and refer clients to other agencies or services as appropriate.

Services are provided within the geographical area of North Vancouver and the auxiliary coverage required is the evening and overnight period during the week, and for a 24 hour period on weekends, which includes a 4 hour shift in the office.  Crisis intervention assistance may be provided at scenes of incidents where violence, serious injury or death may have occurred immediately prior to your arrival.

You have a university degree in Social Work or Psychology as well as training and experience in crisis intervention and victim support services, and/or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Additional requirements include:
  • A valid license to drive in Canada.
  • Your own reliable transportation for which remuneration will be provided.
  • A response time of 45 minutes to North Vancouver during non-peak hours.
  • A declaration being free of conflicts of interest with other activities outside of crisis intervention employment (eg. activities involving an overlap of client groups, working with offenders while working with victims of crime, etc.).
  • The availability to provide coverage for a minimum of 1 auxiliary shift per week.

You will also be required to obtain and maintain an RCMP security clearance as a condition of ongoing employment.

$33.60 to $39.56 per hour
(Pay Grade 22 – January 2019 rates)

Hours of Work:
Auxiliary – hours will vary; primarily weekday evening/overnight and weekend 24 hour coverage.
