Recreation Leader – Youth Services

Part-time, temporary (18 months)

Are you eager to ensure that the youth of this community have a variety of recreational programs and activities to enhance their well-being? If so, this opportunity could be for you!

Our Parks, Recreation & Culture Department is seeking an energetic, organized individual to coordinate a variety of programming for youth. Under the general direction of the Program Coordinator, you will assist with the planning, delivery, coordination, marketing, budgeting and evaluating of youth activities with the primary focus being the Youth Lounge and Skate Park. You will also assist with the recruitment, supervision and scheduling of the youth engagement workers and youth mentors.

We are looking for a self-directed individual who is able to effectively organize and prioritize their workload and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced recreation environment.

Along with a Certificate in Child and Youth Care or a related field supplemented by a supervisory course, the preferred candidate will have three years’ of experience working directly with youth including youth facing many social and environmental barriers to success, combined with experience in program planning, administration, supervision and training of staff.

Excellent customer-service and interpersonal skills are necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships and excellent communication skills to work with internal and external customers. You must have valid Standard First Aid certification, current CPR certification and a valid BC driver’s licence.

The hourly rate for this temporary, part-time CUPE position is $32.44 plus an additional percentage in lieu of all benefits. The Recreation Leader will be required to work Tuesday through Saturday, with a combination of day, afternoon and evening shifts, and some statutory holidays.
