The District of Summerland is one of five municipalities in British Columbia to own and operate its own electrical utility. The District purchases and distributes energy to 5,700 residential, commercial and industrial customers within municipal boundaries utilizing two 8KV substations with demand limits of 10MVA and 20MVA in the winter and 6MVA and 16MVA in the summer. The utility distributes electricity; provides billing, collection and customer service functions; and manages the operation, maintenance and expansion of the distribution system.
This current employment opportunity, following a recent retirement, is for a Journeyman Lineman to join our electrical utility team. Under the direction of the General Manager, the successful candidate will have knowledge and experience in installing and repairing electrical distribution line poles, supports, transformers, conduits, vaults, feeders and other electrical equipment.
Required Qualifications include:
- Journeyman Lineman (Powerline Technician) certificate with Red Seal (Interprovincial Standard)
- A valid BC Driver's Licence — Class 5 with Air Endorsement
- Standard First Aid Certificate.
Preference will be given to applicants with a minimum of three years' experience as a Journeyman Lineman.
Physical testing may be required prior to the final shortlist and interviews as this position requires sufficient strength and stamina to perform heavy manual work outdoors.
This is a full-time IBEW position with an hourly rate of $48.32 per hour.
