Do you enjoy working with the public promoting healthy lifestyles in a fun and friendly manner, and working in an environment to ensure safety and teaching swimming to various age groups? The City of Burnaby is actively recruiting Lifeguard Instructor - Aquatics to join their team.

The City of Burnaby has eight (4 indoor and 4 outdoor) pools. Indoor pools can be found at Bonsor Recreation Complex, CG Brown Pool, Eileen Dailly Leisure Pool and Edmonds Community Centre; seasonal outdoor pools are located at Central Park, Kensington Park, MacPherson Park, and Robert Burnaby Park.

Duties of a Lifeguard Instructor - Aquatics happen both in the water and on the pool deck, and will include instructing aquatic programs to all ages, water surveillance and public relations, as well as participating in rescues and first aid when required. Other responsibilities include, pool maintenance and cleaning duties, completing reports related to daily tasks, and performing other related duties as required.

The following certifications are required and must be current at time of application:
  • Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
  • Lifesaving Society Instructor
  • National Lifeguard
  • CPR – Level C (current within 1 year)

BCRPA Aquatic Fitness certificate, Pool Operator’s level 1 & 2 Certificate and valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia, Class 5, are considered assets.

If your application is shortlisted, you will be invited to three sessions (May 3 - 5, 2019) evaluating your NL physical standards, lifeguarding skills in simulations and Red Cross teaching skills. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview; those successful must attend mandatory general and site-specific orientations, as well as training scheduled for May 27 – June 2, 2019.
