The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is looking for a strong Public Works leader who will oversee the largest portfolio under the Chief Administrative Officer. As the Director, Pubic Works you will provide leadership to the Environmental Services, Transportation, Facilities, Parks and Roads departments. The incumbent will act as a subject matter expert to Municipal Council and Senior Leadership, responding and solving complex operational issues. With direct oversight of 3 Senior Managers, the Director, Public Works will develop and execute departmental strategic plans, including support and guidance of developing the departmental budget, policies, processes and projections.
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in at least one of the key functional areas: Roads, Parks, Transportation, Facilities, Environment) including at least 5 years’ experience at a senior management level. Combined with experience working in a public-sector environment, this individual will have extensive knowledge in leading edge best practices in municipal public works management. With exceptional management, interpersonal, and communication skills, this leader will have the ability to form effective working relationships between department branches, including unionized and non-unionized employees. This leader will have strong political acumen with the ability to operate within a politically sensitive environment, dealing with sensitive issues, and have the emotional intelligence to remain neutral in conflict situations.
