The Town of Quispamsis is a friendly growing community of 16,000 in southwest New Brunswick. The incumbent will develop plans and recommend policies for managing land use, community development, physical facilities and associated services for urban regions. Plans will address zoning, subdivisions, transportation, public utilities, community facilities and parks. He/she will also research past trends and best practices for ensuring effective land use, and investigate public complaints regarding land use. The incumbent will assess development and rezoning applications and will provide input to the Planning Advisory Committee on planning issues and variances at their meetings.

The successful applicant must possess the following qualifications:

  • A diploma or degree in Urban/Regional Planning or Engineering from a recognized university
  • A minimum of (3) three years relevant experience of increasing managerial, supervisory and leadership responsibilities in urban planning or community development, preferably in a municipal, environment or equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position
  • While a M.C.I.P. designation is not required, it would be a definite asset
  • A valid Class 5 motor vehicle driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Clear criminal record check

  • Knowledge of urban principles, procedures, standards, practices and trends in the municipal planning field; land use, physical design, demographic, environmental, and socio/economic concepts as applied to planning
  • Computer experience using office related software, AutoCAD and GIS programs
  • Highly proficient level of MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook)
  • Performance management & advanced conflict resolution
  • Administering contracts and developing and analyzing budgets
  • Safety practices, procedures, standards and regulations
  • Industry standards, procedures, best practices, trends and developments
  • Relevant provincial and federal regulations and bylaws
  • Risk management including loss prevention techniques
