The City of Wetaskiwin, with a population of approximately 12,000, is a thriving community conveniently located in Central Alberta between Edmonton and Red Deer. The City, with its strong commercial, agricultural, and industrial sectors, offers an enviable quality of life for all ages with excellent housing, education, and recreation, as well as a local hospital. The restored downtown area boasts a magnificent City Hall located in the historic old provincial courthouse built in 1907 and renovated in 2007.

This progressive “City in Motion” has an award winning Joint Economic Development Initiative between the City, the County of Wetaskiwin, and the Town of Millet. The City recently approved their “Economic Development Master Strategy, 2009 – 2018, Foundation” which outlines many of the City’s initiatives and can be viewed on their website under City Departments - Economic Development.

The ideal candidate will possess the following competencies:

  • Senior managerial experience in local government together with post secondary education in a related discipline and/or certification in local government management. An equivalent combination of relevant management experience and education from other sectors will be considered.
  • The ability to work with, lead, support, and manage the performance of a highly participative and flat organizational structure with a cohesive team of managers who are responsible to meet the needs of the community in a unified manner with excellent customer service and a high degree of personal initiative.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with Council in building the community and effectively representing the interests of the City.
  • Proven strong collaborative and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and groups including government officials at all levels, businesses, community groups, Council, staff, and individual citizens.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A comprehensive benefits package is also provided.
